Cashpower Meter - Gemini

09/02/2011 7:45 PM

Dear Friends,

PNG is now into prepayment metering system and doing away with the credit metering system. The problem we are facing from the prepayment meter is, When there is a power surge or system outage and the supply system is restored, the prepayment meter tampers. To reset the meter we had to get a token from the vending machines, key in the numbers into the meter thus it closes the tamper switch inside the meter.

The meter is operating on a 230 voltage supply to comply with AS/NZS standards

The meter only tampers when the cover is open, in this case the cover is still intact and sealed but the meter keeps tampering only on system outage.

What will be the cause of this fault, is it something to do with supply reliability or an electronic component that causes the meter to tamper?

If it is an electronic component, What is it?

When there is power surge or outage, the tamper detection malfunctions, this is obviously the meter design fault , best way is to go back the manufacturer or installer, no point trying to repair yourself.

Thankyou Bravo88,

I have tried to get to the manufacturer to give me an answer but could not get through, the fault happens to some of the meters only not every meter that is installed. I have rectified some of the meters with no display on the meter screen after power surge or outage and got it in service by replacing a .58microfarad capacitor and now to try and rectify tamper fault.
