Is there any thump rule for hydrostatic testing of Industrial valves?

1.5 times the operating pressure.

Hi Mr Ducon:

Operating pressure or desing pressure?

Actaully he just registered and shooting off nonsense questions to waste our time. Read his threads - just one line question expecting detailed answer. Now to answer you technically : you first check the pressure rating for the particular material(body and disc).Under that you have diff. pressures for diff. temp. ranges,Confirm your medium's min to max.temperature then you can get the line pressure for your valve.Go to API 598 and see the shell test rating(it will be 1.5 times the rated pressure)and seat test pressure(it will be 1.1 times the rated pressure).
There are lots of standards but the design always begins with the pressure class you want the valve to be.

"Rule of thumb"; not "thump".

Isolation valves shall be tested at 1.5 times of design pressure of the system not of the individual valve.

Safety valve and relief valves are tested as per set pressure for the system with temperature corrections as applicable.
