Floor Plate Source?

09/24/2011 10:06 PM

I would like to find a source for floor plate with a raised pattern of squares on it. Similar to diamond plate / tread plate / 4-way plate / etc, except with raised squares. I thought Ryerson or McMaster-Carr would have it, but can't find it. I would also like to know a generic name to make searching easier. Thanks.

I tried "textured steel plate" and got this (among others). Ignoring the pictures to the right, scan down to the third one on the left, sometimes described as "checker plate". I'm not sure it's what you have in mind.

It's in the former USSR. The shipping is going to be a killer.

I didn't cancel your GA, I think you're already pissing off someone this morning though.

This could be it. I'll have to phone my friend to see if the dimensions match what he needs. I bet he is not used to millimeters! Thanks.

Wow! There are some neat ones in there. My checker-plate idea bombed out, but your page 1 row 4 pix 2&5 might work, along with Lyn's GA. Awaiting OP feedback....

Wow! Lots of images, but none seem to be what the guy wants. The pyramids in a square pattern of page 3 & 4 is closest, but he needs square flat-topped projections. It could be obsolete, because he is working on an old machine.

Seems to me that diamonds are just squares turned 45degrees. Am I missing something?

The "diamonds" in ordinary diamond-plate are elongated rhombi, about 3/8" x 1.5", alternating 90° from each other. Quite different from rotated squares.

It is also known as chequered plates, normally used for walking platforms to avoid slipping. These are available in India but it will be expensive as shipping cost may be high.

He has not specified the quantity other than for floorboards on an Allis-Chalmers 220 tractor. So, probably small--my guess is several square feet .

Also known as tread plate, here's some examples. No. 24 could be what you want.

Could be; I'll pass on the website. Cut at an angle, the squares would be in rows and columns.

That site was a random choice, there are several manufacturers, maybe one closer to home.

L57,

Here locally (Stark County), try Ohio Gratings out on Southway. If they don't have what you need, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Also, R.G Smith Co. (local sheet metal fabricator) on Dueber S.W. could be a good source. Shop foreman's name is Chuck Rogers.

Good Luck !
