Metal Flushing Line for Vertical Pumps

09/28/2011 10:35 PM

In vertical pumps (VS4) with separte discharge , the vendor installed metal flushing line from discharge going to each sleeve bearing in the shaft. How does it works and its importance? Many thanks...Godbless...Peace

One thing it does is cool the bearings; if liquid did not circulate, the bearings would heat up. If the fluid has lubricating qualities, it will also provide lubrication to the bearings.

Glad to help, and welcome to CR4.

(Another thing you might see, which could look roughly similar, is an equalizing tube for decreasing axial forces on an impeller; sometimes called a "balance line".) As you gain more exposure to pump designs, you will see a number of arrangements for various purposes.
