Reflectance Measurement

09/30/2011 7:27 AM

I want to measure reflectance of various materials for different wavelengths from 0.4 microns to 4 microns. It is to be measured at different intensities (Watts per sq. cm)

Which equipment to use and what are the possible limitations of the equipments suggested.

Thanks in anticipation

The range over which you want to test is challenging, being from the blue end of the visible spectrum (.4 microns = 400 nm blue light) to well into the infrared at 4 microns. I've been doing spectroscopy for a long time and I don't know of a single system that can cover that range. You may need multiple spectrometers (or spectroradiometers) to cover that entire range, and you may need multiple calibration lamps or reflectance calibration targets to maintain accuracy over that range of wavelengths.

If you have a specific set of wavelengths at which to measure, rather than needing to cover the entire range, you might be able to use a single broadband radiometer with a set of bandpass filters tuned to your desired wavelengths. Again, though, you might need additional equipment to keep the system calibrated.

I suggest you talk to a sales engineer at Ocean Optics. They have the broadest range of coverage with their spectrometers that I know of. They might be able to build a custom system that will meet your needs. http://www.oceanoptics.com/

Sir,

Thank you very much, for your comments.I am really trying different infrared sources. These are Quartz lamps of different wavelength. The radiation on the back side is to be reflected on the object side. I want to find out reflectivity of different reflectors for those different lamps. I can not invest in to spectroscope but can get it checked in a lab on payment basis. I am in India. Is the help available.
