IG Nobel Award Winners Announced

09/30/2011 7:04 PM

Hurray for the Ig Nobel awards 2011. The Ig Nobel for Mathematics this year was awarded to Harold Camping and others who forecast the end of the world, for teaching us the importance of being careful with mathematical assumptions and calculations. And so much more....

How could they leave out the genius who discovered how to grow a square watermelon?

Is the plural of watermelon, watermeli?

Watermeli.... only in Japan.

I don't think there's an Ig Nobel for Agriculture - but there should be.

The Peace Prize is standard! of course. This year's winner: the mayor of Vilnius, Lithuania, for solving their illegal parking problem with a tank.

Plural of watermelon?

We add Rum and call it a punch

That's were the saying comes from "To roll with (after) the punches."

Is there a prize for these awards, or do they send you a bill?

It's all in good humour. I believe the prizes are some sort of unique sculpture.

I particularly liked this year's Ig Nobel for Literature, John Perry's theory of structured procrastination. Not only amusing, but maybe practical, at least for some of us...
