Order a small solar cell, charge controller, and battery (all of compatible voltage and current) from these guys; hook them up and experiment.

For a small solar system I'd start with a sun and just a couple of planets, you can add some moons later.
But seriously:-
It depends what aspects you want to play with, there is solar tracking, reflectors to boost output without adding cells. Charging circuits etc.
Simplest is panel a batter and a light with some charge regulation and a sonsor to turn the light on at nightfall.

Can you please elaborate and provide more information.

Is this a solar system project (planetary) and a solar system project (solar panels, inverter, batteries, etc)?

Additionally, what is this for and how complex do you want it? Is this a grade school project, personal project or for a PhD (yes we have had people studying for PhD's ask questions with similar levels of detail before).

More information please.
