Has anyone explored or researched the possibility that a 2nd Big Bang has occurred to explain why the Universe is expanding at an accelerated rate? Can you recommend books or articles on the subject?
By the very definition of one, the current Big Bang might not have been the only one, though had an "earlier" one existed, or one existed "elsewhere", then there would be no evidence of it in the Universe. By definition, there is only one Universe.

There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
