gears are usually designed to take the maximin torque near the center of the teeth. the inner and outter parts of the teeth are used for meshing the teeth as the gears rotate.

Dear Mr.pathak5000,

Root Clearance = 0.225 x Module of the Gear.

Let us say the Module of the Gear is 30, then Root Clearance = 0.225 x 30 = 6.75 MM.

Pl. Refer any Standard Gear Design Book.
