First, you need to give us some kind of idea what your mini-project is, or is this the self learning portion of the project?

So what research have you done? I dare say there may be a couple of folk here who'd give you a hand to knock your draft papers into shape, but it ain't a free ride - no-one's going to do the research for you.

Do some work, come back with some results, and we'll see.

P.S. Make sure to keep a note of all your references.

I'd get started, if I were you because if you think anybody here will do your homework for you, I think you are mistaken.

The reason the instructor gave the assignment to you is because he wants you to do the work. Otherwise, he just would have given you this web address and told you to cut and paste.

So, I'd get on with it.

So you expect us to dream up some ficticious project, pretend we've done a load of research and written up our notes, then lay them out in phases 1), 2) and 3), so you can copy the style?

Your college library must be full of similar reports - do some research in that area.

I just googled "how to prepare a p-----t r----t".

Your first self learning task will be to fill in the blanks above.

Do your own homework.

OK, how about this, Try researching failure rates due to vibrations. Then, base your maintenance on what you learned in your research. Everything has different failure rates, that's why there's different maintenance programs related to the type of equipment, etc.

Have you tried an internet search of "formal report"?

Formal report writing is generally taught (or at least basics provided) as part of the course, but again not all of them (which appears to be the case here). Do you have any report writing experience from school, it may not have been engineering-based but will follow similar principles?

There are quite a few methods to report writing and presentation, but generally you start by introducing your topic, briefly explaining what it is and why you did it, presenting your results and tying the whole thing together with your conclusion and end result. Keep it fairly formal, don't use TxT language or slang, don't use 20 words to say what 4 words could (ie- don't pad out your report), and for presentations, watch your time (don't make it too short or too long).

An internet search for "formal report", etc should give you more idea.
