GateValve Handwheel Orientation

Hi

Can we orient Gate Valve Hand wheel at downwards.If no then what would be the problem..

One of the problems is crud getting into the stem threads and packing/seal.

your ok ( no problem ) with pointing down /Air/water/gas/

If you are using for gas ck, to see if it approved for that gas use.

It depends on the design of the actuator and the installation of the valve.

Here's one that isn't designed for bottom mounted handwheel (US Navy photo):

Fisher's 1977 is designed for vertical actuation on a horizontal valve stem, position 3 shows the handwheel at the bottom:

Just out of interest; why would Fisher go to the trouble, if keeping the shaft horizontal was not desirable?
