Electrical Insulation Resistance Test

11/06/2011 12:37 AM

Dear sir,

I was doing the Insulation Resistance test (1000V Megger)for Main LT switch board, but Insulation value is coming around 100Mohms.But Consultant rejected the test due to low Insulation .Kindly let us know what is the Min.Insulation resistance value as per IS/IEC .

Get your own copy of the specifications that you claim to be testing to.

Your ignorance of electronics is inexcusable for someone who, apparently, is taking money from other people to fabricate and test electrical devices.

Please tell me I'm wrong.

what is the voltage of your LT board?

if it is 415 V then accepted value is 1.415 Mohm.

standard accepts kV+1 Mohm IR value for each voltage level.

According to VDE it should be 1000ohms/kV. What is the recommended test voltage?.

Change your consultant. As per Indian Electricity Rules. 1956, Rule No. 48 (i), the minimum insultaion resistance for 415V installtion, with a test voltage of 500V DC, is only one mega-ohm.

100 MΩ IS MORE THEN ENOUGH.FOR 415 V LT POWER 1MΩ IS RECOMENDED VALUE BY IR RULES.YOUR CONSULTANT IS WRONG.

The specification is "The Specification". If their expectations are unrealistic, then refer them to "Somebody Else".

Good insulation resistance . Don't have to worry at all . ( Operating voltage divided by 1000 ) + 1 megohms is the thumbrule . Soo 100 mohms is very good .

if you are working in UAE, then most consultants prefer a perfectly insulated wire/ busbar i.e >999Mohm.

even though IEC & British Standards mention a insulation resistance of 1000ohm/volt (IEC) & >=1Mohm (BS) for a LV system using a test voltage of 500V or 1000V dc , the consultants still prefer the highest value shown in the megger which is >999Mohm.

using a megger-insulation-tester

Hi every1... I have a similar question.

What is the IR value that is expected in LT power cable(1100 V), when tested at site before laying the same. Is the value universal? Please give the separate values for XLPE and PVC cables, 500m and 1000m each.

Many thanks in advance....
