Power Factor Measurement

11/05/2011 10:06 PM

we can measure the power factor correctly by using PLL but i want to know what can be used along with PLL to measure if power factor is lagging or leading.

Have you ever seen a power factor meter?

Kill A Watt has one.

  • Displays 8 critical units of measure:
    • Voltage (Volt)
    • Frequency (Hz)
    • Current (Amp)
    • Volt Amps (VA)
    • Watts (Watt)
    • Power Factor (PF)
    • Kilowatt Hours (KWH)
    • Elapsed Time

This is not an endorsement, but I bought one and, for the price, you should have one too.

please tell what is PLL first and how does it exactly calculate pf in your case?

for pf measurement

only voltage and current input is needed in a meter.

Many types of digital pf meters are now available. AE make some of them.

PLL is phase lock loop.It is an analog device and can be easily used for power factor measurement, frequency measurement.

In a pf factor meter, only current and voltage is needed but i'm trying to introduce the analog device to have a more accurate value of pf.

What is PLL? Phase Locked Loop? And, today in the market you can get a wide variety of very precise Analogue and/or Digital Power Factor Meters. You can use one of them.
