Elctrical Grounding/Earthing

11/06/2011 1:39 AM

WE ARE USEING BENTONITE & CHARCOAL AS GROUNDING ENHANACEMENT MATERIAL , TO BE FILLIED UP IN THE EARTH PIT AROUND THE EARTH ROD. WHAT MORE CHEMICALS SHOULD BE ADDED TO IMPROVE ITS QUALITY.

Please STOP SHOUTING!

Urea is usually a good thing to add, but to be honest you need to get a consultant that can do soil analysis.

I feel that only Bentonite would do. You need not add any other addtives including salt or charcoal.

I think what have said 'Electricalexpert' in his answer is good. No water, no salt, which could destroy your rod, just bentonite. Depends on the pH of your ground. If it's basic (over 8), your must add some heather compost around your rod and one meter under. If it's acid (general case, under 6) you may add some sand very clean, down to 50 cm of your rod. But i don't know how is your ground, you have not done any description. And the earthing envelope must be 50 cm on each side and, at least, 3 meters under your grounding lowest point. Your earthing rod must be in copper for all of the above values.

Hope this will be useful for you, BRZK.

WHAT IS EARTH RESISTANCE VALUE NOW.ELECTRICAL EXPERT ADVICE IS OK.IF YOUR VALUE IS WITHIN LIMIT THEN WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING.IF IT IS MORE THEN 1Ω DESPITE ADDING BENTONITE, YOU SHOULD GO FOR NEW EARTH PIT WITH COPPER PLATE OF 600X600X6 mm³ AND COPPER STRIP SHOULD COME OUT.

Sharmaji! Which Standard in the world stipulates that the earth resistance shall be less than one Ohm?

I feel technical replies are wasted on poster. I think it would be good for posted to indicate if he is on a project (in which case he should quit) or is post a student question?
