Calculation of Fabricated Bend made from PVC pipe

04/26/2007 3:17 PM

what will be Total Length of Fabricated bend made from PVC pipe.

given, pipe size = 160mm

redius = 3.0 m

angle = 90 deg.

socket = 120mm {length of one socket}

please provide calculation of result with standard formula

What is the length of the pipe?

Pipe size = Diameter?

Radius is that the inside radius or the outside?

Angle is ok, I understand

what is the socket? Is that a preformed 90 deg bend? I thought this was fabrication, to me that means it's one piece and you want to bend it.

With more information I could draw it out for you and give you a sketch.

to find what is cut Length of the bend?

Given (as below)

pipe size = diameter= 160 mm

radius = outside =3m=3000mm

angle = 90 deg.

socket mean a bell is formed for jointing with pipelines=120mm

kindly consider all options such as additing straight portion

which will help to have 90deg.angle

regards n thanks

It is rare to encounter a fabricated bend in PVC pipe.

Total length of pipe required to fabricate the 90o bend

= Socket at inlet+ (2*3.14*R)(A/360o) + Socket at outlet,

where R = Bend Radius & A = Bend Angle

= (120/1000) m + (2*3.14*3)(90o/360o) m + (120/1000) m

= 0.12 m + 4.71 m + 0.12 m

= 4.95 m

That length is the min. required without adding straight lengths (other than sockets).

R = Bend Radius: Outer Radius or Nominal Radius?

If Nominal Radius, R should be: 3000 – 160/2 = 2920 mm.

Well, it should be just a small difference...

Outer bend radius, R = 3000 mm

Mean bend radius, Rm is the radius at centerline = (3000-160/2)mm = 2920 mm Inner bend radius, Ri = (3000-160) mm = 2840 mm

I prefer to use R = Outer Bend Radius, 3000 mm (measured at outside radius of bend) in calculating the length of pipe required to fabricate that bend. That radius is more accurate which denotes to the max. length of pipe required.

If you use the radius measured at bend centerline Rm= 2920 mm in calculation, the pipe length is only measured at bend centerline, and you have to add two another segments.
