can you provide how to find the insulation surface area for pipe, vessels, fittings, valves. also inform the shall the measurement including the thickness of insulation?

Please help me.

Hi,

Would you clarify,u want to find out the the surface area of a certain thickness of insulation? is it required for cladding for example?

ONLY FOR FINDING THE SURFACE AREA OF VESSELS OR EQUIPMENTE TO BE INSULATED. SO PLS TELL THE FORMULA FOR ELLIPSOID,EQUADROID ETC..

ALSO FOR EXAMPLE IF WE ARE FINDING THE SURFACE ARESA FOR INSULATING 14 INCH 5 METER PIPE

SURFACE AREA = 2*3.14*14*25.4 *5*1000 SQMM

SO FOR CALCULATING THE SURFACE AREA, SHALL I TAKE 14 INCH OR 14 INCH + 50 MM (THICK. OF INSULATION) ?

Please:

  1. Turn off Caps Lock
  2. Refer to any engineering textbook that gives details of formulae needed to calculate shape areas.

Why you are not taking help of your service provider. Normally Insulation vendor have very good data book with them which have all the formulae and other relevent data for their service area.

Actually this is a very basic and simple formula.

First, what is the environment your pipe is being exposed to and how is the climate on a yearly average. Heat, cold, humidity and so on. Next you figure what type of materials you want to use, and using the manufacture of the type you should choose, find the "R" rating, thermal dynamics of your chose of materials.

Standard calculation of any surface is the basic area formula, linear surface area. And for the thickness, would be calculated as would be expected to suffice in what ever the most extream climate your piping is exposed too.

Calculation for linear surface area: Pi x Dia x length

Once you have your surface area, your thickness is determined by the tpe of material.

Hope this was a simple to follow as it was for me to explain.

Hi,

You should take the outer diameter (pipe dia.+thickness). Normally insulation in your case is measured in square meters:

Insulation area : pi*(14+2)*25.4*5/1000

For vessels, also, consider the outer surface area.

For ordering the material don't forget to add about 5-10% extra to overcome the waste.

Good luck
