Tell the kids that wired kite flying will no longer be allowed near the HT lines.

To further reinforce this new rule on the children, tell them that if they are caught flying the wired kites near the HT lines again, their wired kite will be taken away from them and they will be sent to the naughty step.

There, consider the HT lines saved

Tell them also:

I have a solution:

Don't fly your kite near an overhead powerline.

Reduce the kite string length to less than the hight of the HT lines.

Seriously though, how big an issue is this? I cannot remember any instances of high voltage lines being hit by kites and as a direct result either operated upstream protection (disconnecting the high voltage supply) or damaging or snagging HT lines to the extent that a line crew was needed to fix the damage (unexpected maintenance).

Is this really an issue (or perhaps a hypothetical thought not backed up by actual data)?

What country or area are you talking about (perhaps it is a local problem in some specific areas)?
