Type of Fuses

12/08/2011 11:31 AM

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GLASS TYPE, CERAMIC TYPE AND BLADE TYPE FUSES?

CAN WE REPLACE A GLASS TYPE FUSE BY BLADE TYPE FUSE?

Glass fuses

You can see through them!

Ceramic Fuses:-

You can't.

Blade fuses:-

Typically used in cars

You can interchange ceramics and glass as long as you check the spec.s carefully.

You can't interchange blades with the others, but, you're welcome to try.

The following is also called a "blade-type fuse":

They are not interchangeable with the cartridge-style fuses (glass, ceramic, or otherwise), but require their own specific type of fuse mounting hardware.

Please perform a basic internet search for your answer.

CR4 is not a homework cheat site, please do your own homework as you won't learn anything by us telling you the answers every time you ask.

I've looked back to your previous questions here. You seem to have a problem with understanding fuses. Most of the questions you've posted about fuses are basic questions that any fuse manufacturer's web site will easily answer.

Most of the time a fuse or circuit breaker is chosen to protect the wiring of a circuit and replacing one type with another type will not matter as long as the current and voltage ratings are the same. But to know that you're not going to cause a fire or needlessly increase the number of trips a circuit protector will generate does require a better understanding of the original fuse or circuit breaker design characteristics. For an example, your question here as stated should be answered that the only difference between these three fuse types is packaging. But this packaging difference has unstated implications. A glass and blade type fuse will typically reveal that it is open without removing the fuse for testing. With some experience you can even determine what type of failure happen by looking at the debris inside the glass tube. Blade fuses will successfully interrupt only low voltage circuits like most automotive applications. The lower current clear glass fuses can handle most domestic power line distributions. The opaque ceramic fuses will typically be able to interrupt higher voltages at higher currents but one can not see the condition of the conductive element inside of the fuse.

Many will wrongly consider a circuit breaker as an identical but resettable version of a fuse, they're not. A good article on the difference between a fuse and circuit breaker is here.

Sigh.

You seem to want to learn electrical engineering on CR4. i already told you to do something about this tendency of watch a cricket match on TV while others are doing your work.

Please see again : http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/74093#newcomments

For good knowledge on fuses, see this one : cooperbussmann
