kw is actual power and

kva is apparent power.

cos(fi)=kw/kva

according to Definitions:

KW is the appearant power

while, KVA is the active power

KW for different loads can be summed together to get the total load

while, KVA for different loads can't be summed to get the total load because these loads may not have the same power factor.

your electrical bill is based on KW consumption not on KVA consumption
