About Heat Shrinkable Sleeve Joint (Canusa Cps Product)

12/21/2011 3:53 AM

Please give us feedback regarding overlapping of sleeve always instructed to keep at 10 and 2 O'clock positions of pipe 'Is there any technical reason behind this?'

Reason if joint located at 12 O'clock: Preventing sleeve joint by improper backfilling materials (like sharp or hard debris) or from the stress developing on sleeve joints due to direct perpendicular forces of backfilling materials when the location of joint will suppose to be at 12 O'clock. Please guide us if there is any of other reasons.

Thanks,

Why not ask the people who make it?

Thanks to reply,

We have already been rejected all affected joints on the basis of application instruction of canusa Cps, but purpose to send this to search some more strong technical reason as i have explained one of my observation in earlier

Is it because someone stepping on it causes it to drive downwards, the pipe passing through the gap, and to fall off?

The position of the overlap is not critical if it is placed at 10 or 2 O'clock but it should definately be postioned above these points. The main reasons are because during installation, at the overlap their is opportunity to trap in moisture if you are working in an exposed area without any weather protection over the joint.

If this does occur, the effect of gravity is more likely to allow the moisture/water to run off.

Also, working at the 10 or 2 positions is usually the most comfortable for the service engineer. This is obviously dependant on the pipe diameter and its position during sleeve application.

You can work at 12 O'clock if you want to but usually you would not do this on pipes over 24".

Most Clients demand in specifications that the overlap remains above the 3 and 9 o'clock positions for reasons previously described.
