Automatic Transmission of Data When PC is Connected to Internet

12/23/2011 4:30 AM

Dear people... I am facing a problem with my pc and I need guidance from software gurus out there... Whenever I am connecting my pc to internet (broadband connection through telephone network) data is getting downloaded automatically without opening any page... I haven't switched on any automatic updates... Even then it keeps downloading to the tune of about 1 MB in about 10 seconds... Pls help me understand what the problem is and how to solve it.

Run utility program such as CCleaner, then initially disable all startup programs, and clean all cookies stored. Make sure your windows automatic update is also turned off at this time.. Restart the PC and observe if anymore downloads is still running...

You may also need to check what is in your system configuration, for any unneeded process being loaded during the bootup process, if any downloads is still observed after re-starting the PC.

1. Turn off your internet connection.

2. Open: Tools->Internet Options->Delete (plus delete all offline content - a popup).

3. Use a good quality antivirus and pc cleaner program.

4. Reconnect your intenet connection.

5. Test to see if you still have a problem.

6. Stay off of the sex, gaming, and music sharing sites.

Kilowatt0 is RIGHT ON.

I recommend you use Kaspersky Internet Security- It has some very effective firewalls and watches everything coming in or leaving- and stops ANYTHING that is NOT supposed to be going either way.

You can get a free one-month trial download and then easily upgrade to whatever term you want. They also have multi-packs that treat three or more machines for one low price.

The best thing about them is that it is virtually invisible to your operations and it updates itself about every 15 minutes.

All of the previous posts should guide you as to where you should be looking. Also I recommend Zone Alarm firewall ,it has a section to control your programs access to the Internet and will warn you of any unauthorized program activity attempting to go on the net.

You may have "Bot" software, lodged in the Kernel of Windows. So called "Rootkits". You need a "cleaner" that boots from a CD/Stick with Linux, then it removes the offending software, many antivir companies offer them for free....

This is most likely a process of the plug and play discovery. You can use a realtime monitor program to perform your own man-in-the-middle interception...a protocol analyzer. There are numerous available for free on the internet. Look for a sniffer or protocol analyzer.

I'll put in a little plug for Sandboxie. It's not the only program like it, but it works. It is also useful for installing and running any "new" applications you're not sure of.
