Starting of Synchronous Motor Using Cycloconverter and Converter

12/25/2011 2:47 AM

The main disadvantage of synchronous motor is that it is not self starting one.

The direction of electromagnatic torque changes after 0.02sec for 50hz supply. If we first start the motor with DC supply then switch it to AC supply then the phenomena of changing the direction of electromagnetic torque does not occur.

That sounds like a load of cobblers.

I am leaning my guess toward loaded on Christmas weed and stumbled into a engineering forum while buzzed and web surfing.

An overwhelming lack of information relating to said motor and power source for starters.

It is for all kind of synchronous motor(for all rating) and the power source for starter is any kind of 3ph ac supply.........

What is your question?......

Will this work?

Is my understanding correct?

How do synchronous motors start?

or something else?

Still not enough usable info. There are single phase and three phase synchronous motors all the way from clock motors that use less than a watt to multi megawatt units in industrial mills and what not. Obviously they are able to start somehow otherwise they would not be used.

So again what motors in specific and what power sources in specific otherwise we can assume you don't understand basic alternating current or electric motor design theory.

I think motors used in clock is not synchronous motor it is either stepper motor or switch reluctance motor .... and i dont heard that a synchronous motor is used for clock....

I am talking about the large power rating 3ph synchronous motor....(generally)

Oviously there are many method of starting an synchronous motor.....

But this method will more user friendly and power saver.

Nope the tiny electric motors on the old AC powered mechanical clocks are tiny single phase synchronous motors with gearbox's on them. Take one apart and see for yourself.

As far as large three phase synchronous motors go they can start on normal power just fine but tend to have very high initial inrush currents while getting up to speed. To limit or regulate the start up currents there are a number of ways to do that as well.

So what exactly is your point or question with this thread anyway?

Read this a few times and then rephrase your inquiry.
