A "circular mil" is the area of a circle of diameter 0.001 inch (= pi/4 x area of a 0.001" square). For your purposes, a wire table that uses both KCM and mm2 units would be handy.

kCM (Kilo Circular
Mils) is rarely used to indicate the conductor size. While the old acronym MCM (Million Circular Mils) is still in
use, the most commonly used is the Kcmil
(Kilo Circular Mils) now a days. But
all these three indicate the same thing 'Kilo (or million) Circular Mils.
