New Engine of the Future? Circle Cycle Engine

01/18/2012 1:10 PM

I just stumbled upon this today! It appears viable and I would really love to see where it will go and possibly take us in the future! Just not sure how to change the spark Plugs!

You'll forgive my skepticism

how effective is this? does the mass of those separate engines not decrease efficiency

Where is the real data? It is hard not to be skeptical when they don't put forward any solid facts, or reproducible data from thourough testing.

Warning Number !- All of the images are computer generated- not a single image of a real working model.

Warning Number 2- How do you insure that the cylinder and piston are properly aligned when they re-mate? Your compression rings are going to demand a pretty tight tolerance, if they are going to do the job.

Warning Number 3- Exhausting combustion gases into the housing where there is likely a lubricant?

Oh, lovely. Another mechanical inversion of a plain piston engine. Nothing beats mechanical vercomplicator, to no profit.

I'm intrigued by how the pistons and cylinders stay aligned, is it done with magnets? Ffej

"is it done with magnets?"

Not magnets, magic!

[In answer to several questions raised by various responses]: Look at the gear train that supports both cylinders and pistons; THAT'S what keeps them aligned. According to "The Story" on the site, the pistons and cylinders never actually touch, so there's no mechanical seal. And there is a video purportedly showing a bench model running on propane that doesn't appear to be computer-generated.

The video is spectacular and above my expectations but I do have my reservations.

One: The engine is definitely subjected to reciprocating forces as the cylinders and pistons reciprocate up and down, not on the axis of the cylinder but perpendicular to it.

two: I doubt if the gear train will last long with these forces.

three; with no contact the leakage of the gases may be high

four: the engine seems to be very big for the power it will supply.

Johan.

Maybe I'm missing something ... How do the fuel and air get in and how does the exhaust get out, through the same gearbox? That can't be very efficient. How is it ignited other than through diesel compression? And I agree with others, one broken gear tooth could be a very bad thing.

re·cip·ro·cate: to cause to move alternately backward and forward.

Those pistons sure look like they're moving "backward and forward."

Ain't that reciprocateing?

Good point, but I think to reciprocate is to move back and forth in a linear motion on the same plane, say X plane. The piston(s) do go in and out of the sleeve but also on a Y plane.

If you aligned the four cylinders in a single row, they would not have to come completely apart to pass each other. Problem 1 solved.

So you have achieved rotary motion without a crank shaft. Problem 2 solved.

Now all you have to do is get fuel and exhaust to cylinder ports that are in rotary gyration. Well you could duct through rotary couplings and hollow crankshaf.......Oops, back to the drawing board folks

the spark plugs go into the ends of the pistons, according to the pictures. I'm more

concern with the breathing of the engine It looks like it pressured fed..
