Inverter SVO22IG5A-4 Fails to Work

01/23/2012 4:50 AM

We have this inverter drive but has failed to work, tried all the basic settings for the inverter to work but still failed,am getting 14vdc between p1 and cm, terminals p1-p8 appear to be digital inputs but i just can't tell if this voltege is enough to drive the inverter so that it can switch on the output to the motor, any more info required i shall be able to provide it.

Thanks.

What did the inverter manufacturer say in response to the telephone call, and why has this advice been disregarded in favour of a posting in an anonymous international internet forum?

Well in all fairness PWSlack, that is an LS (formerly LG) iV5 inverter and in my experience LS has one of the worst tech support structures in the industry (with the possible exception of in Korea where they are headquartered). Chances are the OP has nobody to call in his part of the world (looks like China) or it is some ignoramus agent who is just collecting a commission check.

Olivinak,

Do you have a manual? If so, do you understand about programming drives? It appears from the manual I have that P1 is a Multifunction Input, CM is is just the Common terminal for all of the MF Inputs. So unless you had something specific programmed inside of the VFD to respond to P1, it isn't going to do anything. The Fwd / Run command is supposed to be connected to terminal FX.

But be careful. In what I consider to be one of the all time classic idiotic designs, they have TWO terminals labeled "P1"; One of them is the MF Input I described above, a small terminal located on the control board, the other one is a DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE DC BUS IN THE INVERTER SECTION! So if you connect to CM and the larger P1 terminal, YOU WILL FRY THE CONTROL BOARD!

Nice huh?

If you don't have a manual, you can download one here. Unfortunately for you, LS does not seem to have a manual available in Chinese. Hopefully you are fluent enough in one of their other available languages.

Sounds like you're not keen on these units JR.

Years ago I worked for a small equipment mfr and we brand labeled some drives from Teco. But everyone was moving towards vector drives and Teco had no offerring, so we investigated LG (their name at the time). They gave us great pricing for brand labeling so we had them provide us with a sample vector drive. When we tested it, we found out it was NOT a vector drive. They had lied to us and thought that we would not notice! When we called them on it, they backpedaled and said it WOULD be vector capable some day. Unforgiveable.

Thanks all,

I tried to reach up on the link provided by JR, inorder for me to post a question i had to register but when it comes to logining in the link breaks so i was so peesed off, i tried to find their customer care number all in vain, i did program the drive and when i hit the run button it shows on the display that it is running, even when i send the increase and decrease signals they were all fine, but no out put to the motor.

I decided to dismantal the whole drive to have a look at how the motor gets its input from the drive and maybe the PCB (ofcourse after 10mins for the caps to discharge as sugested by the manual). I found out that the ouput relay was bugard, this drive worked only once for a few mins.

The most hurting thing is that after several days of troubleshooting and seeking help from specialists, technicians, engineers, technologists and experienced people in engineering on CR4, my boss insists to bring a replacement from the exact supplier, i tried to convince him but all in vain. These guys provide incomplet manuals with out CDs to interface with a PC.

Thanks all for the help. Looking foward to more discusions.
