How many believe in time travel? Is it possible atleast in theory?

Everything in the universe is travelling forwards in time at the speed of light.

I can't perceive the idea. Anything travels with a speed of light will have infinity mass. Why forward?

I know its possible and done quite often.

If I don't pay attention to what day of the week it is they will slip an extra one in on me/ jump me back a day.

Anyone else ever notice that some weeks you show up for work on Monday and leave for the weekend on Friday but you are sure you put in 6 or 7 days between them? Time travel I tell you!

Well, if you are going to go time traveling, you'll need the proper sound effects and background music, so here:

DIY time travel sound effects

Re: Time travel

For Hollywood it is a breeze.

However, the proof for such a possible event has yet to appear. If it were possible we might expect a future visitor or many, but to the best of our knowledge, no one has stopped by to collect relics or say hello.

Even if you subscribe to the theory that every decision point in our existence spawns a new universe or every possible decision point is taken, thus creating separate realities we would still expect to see evidence of visits from the future. For instance, if you go back in time your presence would spawn a new reality in which you have returned. The original past reality remains unchanged and ultimately leads to some point where you departed to return back in time. When you go back you are in the past, but on a new timeline in a newly created universe. Still seems unlikely, but why?

Well, if this were true, then the only other possible explanation (if we do exist within the multiple decision point multi-verse) is that we are the prime universe that all other universes are spawned from. Given that there are nearly a infinite number of possible decisions or at least a large number of possible time travel events it seems statistically unlikely that we would find ourselves in this "virgin" or "prime" universe and not on one of the more common universes where time travelers have come back to visit.

In short, we really do not understand time. We cant' see it nor can we measure time. We can only measure devices that mark the passage of time. Time may not even exist except in our perception of reality, which reality may be arbitrary, too. It's a fascinating subject.

To answer your question, I would like to believe, but there seems to be no supporting evidence to date and no supporting theory (yet) to substantiate it. In the meantime I can only watch episodes of Dr. Who.

Time exists so that everything doesn't happen at once..... and that's all I have to say about that.

Re: Time travel

Does it?

How can you prove that? I think that is not a simple proof.

Where I am going with this is that there are physicists that point out that time may be nothing more than an illusion.

In short, time might be emergent. That means time is a derived aspect of a more fundamental and timeless reality when looked at on the quantum scale.

Or - time may be a total illusion.

What we do know for sure (well pretty sure) is that we don't know what time is.

Well said, Time travel is like religion, we can add rules to the idea to make it sound more realistic, like only travelling forward, can only go back till the creation of the machine but it is Bull-crap.

Get an old Navy ship, and put field generators on board. Start varying the frequencies on the gens until you find the resonance of the universe. Make careful notes this time, please. We lost the last ones, and can't get any more volunteers. Until we get a handle on this procedure, it's a tad risky.

And don't try this in Philadelphia again, they are still upset over the bad publicity.

Read in your best Homer Simpson voice

Wait a minute.....YOU WERE THERE?

That's not supposed to happen until October 28, 1943.

Hey, wait what a minute, what day is it today?

Doh...I hate time travel, it confuses me.

Fantastic! What airline do you use?

Mine generally get me to LA, 2 to 4 hours after I left Australia.

Coming back I loose a day + 14
