Plate Bending Machine

01/27/2012 2:46 AM

Hi..

I'm final year student,

I'm designing three roll double pinch plate bending machine(hydraulic type)..

Specification:

ms plate of 12 mm thick and 1600mm width

Can anyone help me to calculate tonnage(load),radius of plate to be bend, distance between two bottom rolls and rolls diameter

Has anyone had formula to calculate it?

Try in the previous threads there is at least one -several tears old- where you find almost all what you need. This thread was generated by same questions from an Indian designer who had to design a HUGE machine and was not sure about what he had to do.

Those are not HIS calculations but mine. I tried to explain how the problem should be solved. Why not try to get in touch with him ? He could be able to help you in a better way since you speak same language and he should have now a lot of experience.

As for formula if you have to design such a machine you have first to understand how it works and after it formula come from themselves.

Basically on CR4 we do not make student work we can ONLY help them when they are in difficulty but after they made their work.

As for the comment about tonnage it is wrong or at least not complete.

I wonder people who can spend their professional life with only one book.

As a final year student what do you know about bending ?

What do you know about geometry ?

In fact all what you need is on the sketch if you have the NORMAL knowledge about what I wrote and with help of the sketch you MUST be able to do the deduction of the formula by yourself. I did NOT use special formula or any hidden and secret knowledge.

First you try, if you make errors you will get support but I shall NEVER give you pre chewed food. I helped many but ONLY this way.

Look in the Machinist Hand-book. I will look for mine tomorrow, and try to find the formula.

kashyap, what is your machine supposed to do? Roll plate into a tube? Tonnage will increase as dia. decreases. According to your sketch you will have 4 formulas to solve. Does your machine form just 1 size tube? I would build it to roll all differt sizes of tube. I am a tool & die maker and the Machinist Hand - Book will be invaluable for the rest of your working life, if you will be an engineer. I suggjest you go ahead and buy a book, arould $200 bucks. The formulas in my book are as follows: Machinery's Handbook 20th Edition page 427. I agree with Doogleass wholeheartedly, you really shold know how to do this. Let us know how it works out for you. plutokrat

With all due respect, if you are a senior in, presumably, Mechanical Engineering, you should be able to locate the appropriate formulae and do the calculations. If you cannot do that now, what do you expect to do after you have graduated and secured employment wherein you have represented that you are capable of performing the tasks expected of a graduate Mechanical Engineer? Will you still seek solutions on a forum such as this? If you do, will you share your salary with those who do your work for you?
