Stator Earth Fault for High Voltage Generator Still Persist

02/03/2012 6:27 AM

Could someone tell me recommended setting (ISO based lists) of different generators ratings and transformers??? It will help me in future problem. My generator has 12.5 MVA with neutral grounding transformer of proximate 9kva after Meggering using 5000kv or any other megger???? When u troubleshoot earthling fault at stator terminals(ie neutral grounding transformer and Lightening arrestor or some generator low resistance maybe used) of generator.

Instead of getting the thing running despite the fault being present, wouldn't it be better to eliminate the fault before getting it running? After all, one wouldn't want to risk injuries or fatalities, would one?

To test your stator windings, disconnect your stator terminal flexible braids. This eliminates surge arresters, VTs, etc. If this is not practical, pull VT primary fuses, & surge arrester tails. Open the earth switch, generator side of generator breaker. Carry out 10 minute PI test. You will need a DLRO to balance check the windings. Hope this helps. Colintonybone.
