Take Off Gantry

02/04/2012 12:10 AM

Which gantry we use to call as Take off gantry? Is it the gantry nearby the Generator Transformer or the Gantry that is outside (or) end of Switchyard.

Then gantry and tower?any difference between these two????

Kindly clarify...

Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge, a take-off gantry is the one on the substation from which the first of the transmission tower is connected to the line bay. The gantry near the transformer is usually to connect it to the high voltage equipments on the substation.

The tower is the tower and the gantry is the gantry.

What more do you want?

Send us some photos of your gantry or tower if you are having trouble discriminating between the two.

A gantry is a truss supported by shorter towers and a tower stands alone....

Vinodh -

Are you familiar with cranes?

In a warehouse or mill, there are sometimes cranes that span across the room and run on rails along the inside wall of the building - Like this -

This a Gantry Crane and it resembles the Take-Off Gantry because a beam or truss or bridge spans between the uprights.

A tower (a tower crane shown here) looks like this and has a single tower that supports the upper attachments. This might help you remember the differences.
