difference b/w converter transformer and distribution transformer? why industrial are use converter transformer?

It's a bit like asking why the cross-channel ferry boats are used in The Channel and narrowboats on the inland canal system.

Suitablility for purpose, is the answer.

Regarding converter Transformer and Distribution Transformer,Converter is required where there is steady voltage for CNC machinary loads. Economically Distribuiton Transformer, With ON LOADTaP changer is cheap and suits well for normal industrial application, this is generally followed in India.Moreover the space required is also less as compared the Converter Tr.

Correction! Not all industries use converter transformers. They are used only where the loads are power electronic loads like AC VFDs. They are specillay designed to tolerate the harmonics generated by such power electronic loads.
