There might be downloadable versions, but I think these standards must actually be purchased.

The standards can be purchased from the organizations you have listed.

You will have to gain knowledge by study and experience.

Try www.ihs.com this will let you know if you need to pay for individual items. The site does cost money to use though. Alternatively, try inputting into google or other search engines. If this doesn't work try your local library as they sometimes hold technical publications

As previously stated, try SAI Global, they have standards from most countries available for online purchase as either a PDF or hard-copy.

If a standard is something you need, it is worth buying.

All education and knowledge come with a price tag, either in terms of money or hard work, and often both.

Buy the most current version you can get you hands on and all will be ready when you need the knowledge next time.

Regards,
Sapper

Dear Mr. Prabhakar, I have most of the IEC/IS/IEEE Standards with me in soft form. If you can list out the Standards of your interest, I may try to send them across to you! And, please note that I am against somebody keeping these Standards, just for snob value.

You may know, LinkedIn, a professional forum like CR4, has a group "Network of Electrical engineers" which has very recently included a discussion on the topic "Can any one guide me how to get the knowledge in IEC, IEE and IS Standards?",raised by one Mr Mahaboob Basha,Technical Officer at Central Institute for Rural Electrification (as described in his LinkedIn profile),very similar to the question raised by Mr Prabhakar.

May I refer your name for the benefit of LinkedIn group also, with your permission?

I am Member in both 'CR4' and 'LinkedIn' groups. Thanks and regards.

While I agree that copies of standards should not be kept for "snob value" as you put it.

They are Copyrighted documents and therefore should not be passed around as soft copy, the name for this activity is Piracy and in most, if not all countries, is illegal.

Also if you buy them from the proper distributors, you are sure you are getting the current version of the document.

Also if you just give them to him\her, they will not value the document as much as it they buy it themselves.

Sharing information is one thing and there is nothing wrong with sharing knowledge and education other, but distributing unauthorised copies of documents or text is not the way to go about it.

Best Regards,

Sapper
