Selecting Generator Capacity

02/14/2012 12:02 AM

Hi, Please post your suggestions for the foll.

1.When selecting Generators is it necessary to get the total starting current of all inductive loads, specially for small building . Particularly Aircon (say 12000btu to 50,000btu) starting current.

2.In order to reduce the gen capacity is it possible to include electronic unit based on a logic circuit of not any nos of units starting at the same time.

1. Correct method of Gen selection.

2. With this starting current in the system can be under control. So, you can reduce the Gen capacity.

bro when selecting the gen. capacity we should know the total load which we are going to put on the gen. gen capacity should be 30% more then wat we are going to put on gen. this will make the gen. operation safe.

if we talk about starting current of each load, its around 5 to 8% of actual load. practically these equipments are started one by one so dat our generator does not trip.

coming to ur second point, in case of big motors there are star delta or auto transformer starters which reduce the initial starting current. if we talk about a.c's with small motors, it is not possible.

hello zai , i suggest to you that selecting the generator suitable in your application you to calculate the full load or full operation of the building exmple you load is 100kw you need to have a generator rating @ 180 or 200kw so you not facing the exciter burnout or the AVR fault hope this messege give you the idea how to takecare your machine
