Book On Trusses

02/15/2012 3:51 PM

I have this small book on trusses entitled "Simplified Design of Roof Trusses", by Parker, 2nd Edition, 1941, 1953. I would like to obtain a companion publication of the answers to the problems, assuming one was made. Anyone know if one exists, and where I can get a copy? Thx.

My only suggestion with a book this old is to try contacting the Library of Congress.

I don't know the book.

If you put up a picture of a finished truss, someone on here may check an individual member. In general, if one member is correct, one can assume that the others are also. An error in one member flows through the others.

You could check yourself by using a different method, there is the method of sections, the method of joints and there is the graphic method.

Good morning SolarEagle,

If you have the time and inclination, I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on Problem 74-A (p88, Fig. 56, p89). I am trying to teach myself how to design trusses.

After assigning the letters A, O, P, N to the lower left point, CW, I get a load of 14,763# on angular strut OP, and 10,117# in horizontal tie PN.

Are these close to what you get?

I think SolarEagle got his picture from the Amazon website

If you can scan or photograph the relevant pages, someone here will be able to help.

I have a copy of that very same book, but to my knowledge a "Solutions" book wasn't published. I may be wrong on this.

You may want to visit antique book shops in your area or online...even Ebay.

Good luck with that search!

So do I....a couple hundred of them in fact....after a while I have started to buy them on CD's or downloading free e-books as I'm running out of available room to shelve them all!

Are the original publishers still in business? If a companion book still exists then they would know.

Have you checked the catalogs of any technical libraries (universities, colleges...) yet?

Could be Parker never published the answers. Could be a publishing opportunity there for an eager bunch of students.
