Graphics Card

02/22/2012 10:24 PM

I have an assembled system with RAM-1GB, 320GB Hard disc, Dual-core processor. I want to convert my system to a standard game pc in which I can play almost all good games like "Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blo..."

Can you share names/online links for a good graphic card (cheap and feature rich)

I need the model no. and brand of your motherboard, do you have a PCI express slot?...What is the wattage of your existing power supply? We have to determine what your existing mother board will accept...The design of your mother board will determine what graphics cards can be used, as will the output of your power supply, if I have the brand and model number of your board I can find the schematic on line...

Best to start with checking the minimum and recommended hardware stated on the games you are interested in playing. For example, although your basic setup idea would work for games like Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood, it is almost a 7 year old game and modern games require better hardware.

Also, 1GB of ram is likely to be too little and likely to slow whatever system you decide to build, get say 4 GB (especially if you are planning on running a modern operating system like windows 7), it is a cheap way to improve overall performance (up to a point).

There are many graphics cards available and choice depends not only on the games you want to play but also what motherboard, power supply and operating system you are running. As a general note buy a graphics card better than the games you want to play but not too expensive (assuming your hardware will support the graphics card - main limitations are power supply size and motherboard bus slot type).

As for graphics cards, my preference is for the NVIDIA GeForce series. Try the link below as it is to the NVIDIA site selection tool page that will help you chose a graphics card based on your budget and preferences.

cheap and feature rich......I believe you can only one choice; cheap or feature rich; your first choice cheap would tend to avoid feature rich. By the way the other positngs are right you would be doing your self a favour if you pumped up the ram - its cheap as chips these days

For gaming you are going to need a card with fast refresh rates and the direction given by other posters is good advice.

Also some others may tell you your a little short on storage but theres plent of inexpensive external drives - means you can wander over to mates place with your games in hand and be ready to roll (sort of).

Graphics cards are commodities and pretty much universally applicable.

With your machine (with its existing graphics card) connected to the internet find the graphics card, by searching, that meets your requirements.

Most manufacturers have a "system compatability check" function on their website. Use that to see whether the card of your dreams will work with your machine. The check tells you yes or no and why not. Nvidea is one manufacture that has this tool on their website.

Try newegg.com for new video cards. Read the reviews, and make sure the video card will fit in your motherboard. How well the game plays will depend also on your screen resolution, so if your system isn't fast enough for the game, cutting down your resolution can help. Ebay is a good source for used "last-years greatest" parts to upgrade your computer without breaking the bank. Just make sure the seller has a good feedback rating. "Tom's Hardware" is a good site for researching the capabilities of video cards and other computer parts in games.

As someone has already said, good graphics cards are not cheap and cheap graphics cards are not good.

You probably need more RAM to obtain decent preformance for most games today.

I'm not a tech expert but I doubt your plan is going to work. Time for a new machine.
