Cable Sizing

02/28/2012 7:56 AM

Hello,

I have a 1600KVA transformer DY, and as you made know the secondary would be about 2500A load sourcing. What size of cable do you think will be appropriate for a 50m/phase surface run cable and a neutral.

We don't do free design work here. Hire an Electrical Engineering consultant locally.

Dear yinkebo,

Normally, for a Transformer of 1600KVA rating. you need to go for a busduct. either Aluminium or copper busbars suitable for a 2500Amps alongwith PCC.

Why? Singles suitably braced are used on larger transformers.

I meant for a normal power distribution scheme. Other areas of application are Generating stations, where they may go in for cables.

Bus duct is an other option only...and it is not must. Either cables or busbars are used. Please dont express your limited knowledge

You are commenting with Anonymous poster. I take it lightly because, I am far better than you by not merely commenting and trying to help that chap.

If you cannot dare to comment with your name then please keep quite and let others take this discussion ahead. or else argue on technical grounds.

I would appreciate if you can give technical reason or subsitute with no. of runs of cables of size, etc.

You may please understand that giving any name does not provide any value for your answers. it is in the depth of answers and not in Name or anonymous. Have you ever heard about single core 630mm2cables, which is normally use for Transformer to Main distribution boards??? I think you have only experinece in India.

Dear Anon #2,

Why are you beating around the bush. Answer to the discussion raised. My credentials does'nt need any of your comments. Experience in India, you meant. My dear, you are going off track or out of head. I would still appreciate if you introduce your self. You don't have the guts to even introduce yourself. Please stop this conversation and as said try to answer to the question raised.

I doubt even Anon #3 is being generated by you only. Only cowards do like that. Please be brave and feel free to discuss. You need counselling for healthy way of working.

You need to check your local code book for cable rating and rules. You will need multiple cables per phase to carry 2500 amps. VD should not be a problem.
