Head Room Clearance Required for Piping

03/06/2012 4:42 AM

Dear All,

If Pipes are routed over head what should be the minimum Head room length required for safe maintenance.

Kindly clarify my query.

Regards,

Rakesh.

The question is a bit difficult to understand, Guvnor. The minimum height for safe maintenance is about waist height, though you want a route underneath them. You haven't yet stated what is to pass underneath them on this route, and the minimum height must be sufficient for the thing that is passing underneath them to go clearly through without colliding with them and with a safety margin to allow for any variations in height that might develop. Pipes don't need a lot of maintenance, and safe systems of work exist for any height.

So I, for one, am a bit lost as to what to suggest.

Thank you for your quick response.

sorry for not explaining my query cleary.

For over head routed pipes i heard from some one that, the distance from the ground to the bottom of pipe should be 2300 mm minimum to allow man movement under that pipes.( Oil application , Steam ).

Kindly confirm me whether it is right or wrong.

Regards,

Rakesh.

Well, that would make sense. Does anything else have to go under it?

yes, as there is a walk way we are planning to route it over head. We are considering only man movement under it.

Hence i want to take confirmation regarding the Head room clearance required.

Kindly confirm me whether there is any written clause that minimum 2300 mm length is required for Head room clearance.

Regards,

Rakesh
