widows 7 has a compatibility troubleshooter. when downloading progran, click save. don't run yet. go to you download files. right click on the program. click on "troubleshoot compatibility"

These are 32 bit applications, they will not work with 64 bit O/S....Check with developer to see if 64 bit versions are available, otherwise, stick with the 32 bit O/S...Win 7 ultimate is available in both 32 and 64 bit...

Microsoft offers a free download of virtual PC and also offers a free download the 32 bit version of XP professional that will run inside the virtual PC. I've played with it and it works great.

Also there's a program compatibility manager inside windows 7 so if you haven't tried that do that first is seems to work most of the time if not download and use virtual PC.

Open the control panel and select troubleshooter to get to the compatibility manager.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

PS 2 GB is a minimum requirement for the 64 bit version of windows 7 I would recommend installing another 2 GB if possible, especially if you're going to use virtual PC.

Regards.

In a Standalone App I tried to open *.hlp [ 64 bit system has *.chm instead as help file] the system advised me to install Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) for Windows 7

<http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/genuine/faq>

WinHlp32.exe is required to display 32-bit Help files that have the ".hlp" file name extension. To view .hlp files on Windows 7, you need to install this application

YWROADRUNNER #4 has referred you to the correct solution I think.

Try it.

I have 64 bit home pro and x86 [32bit app] are installed in a folder "Program Files (X86)" and all 32 bit App are installed.

Hi from Sleepy,

I own two PC s one Desktop, one Laptop both with 64 bit Windows loaded as their only operating system.

True 64 bit software that MS recognizes loads into a Win7 folder; 32 bit Apps load into a folder labelled x86. So there are two lists of operating software.

This just works, I have not had to do anything special! Each App runs as it should, but I do not have any apps cross threaded as it were! I am not trying to move data from a 64 bit app to a 32 bit app or vice versa - or not that I know about it anyway.

I have yet to load Visio into either of these systems; if I needed it I would just load it as normal and I would expect it to load into the 32 bit area (x86).

Good Luck from Sleepy

You should not have any trouble installing and using 32 bit software under 64 bit Windows.

You will have trouble if you try to run 16 bit software, or DOS applications. They absolutely will not work in the 64 bit flavour.

Visio is extra software that you need to purchase.

I am sorry to note that I recommended a GA to YWROADRUNNER on his post #4.

Now I see there is no GA for him.

Why?

Looks like someone gave him an "off topic" vote. I gave him a GA so he gets at least one.
