Regarding the Power Plant Load Measurement

03/22/2012 1:22 AM

Dear all,,

Some one tell me how the efficency of the power plant (diesel) or load is measured?

how the procedure is carry out?

Thanks and regards

I would start by collecting average megawatts(if plant is capable of producing large amount of power) or kilowatts but since its diesel power plant hopefully i will get megawatts .So i will collect an average per year especial one complete year(one year back will be best choice ie 2011) get average that will be my output to machine in megawatts.Then check input as indicated by manufacture (Here u can easily look from manufacturing stamp/name plates of each machine ).then as we know

η=O.put/I.put *100%

NB:Check corresponding component separetelly ie Generator ,Turbine etc. but i think generator results will be good and overall result for ure question

Thanks,

But how i measured the power in MW using CT's and VT's connected to the generator output side or MMU's connected in the system. i just want to know technically how the measuring is done considering the electrical connection.

(average power/ manufacturers rated maximum power) isnt my definition of efficiency.

manufacturers rated maximum power isnt "input".

please correct me if im wrong here :)

Which "efficiency" do you want?

  1. The efficiency at catalog rated continuous power, or maybe, 1 hour rating?
  2. The efficiency supplying an actual, variable, consumer load over a period, say one month?

In either case, it is usual to use kWh energy meters - better than spot readings of a power which is seldom constant - and compare the kWh reading increase over a specific time with the weight of fuel of a known kWh per kg heat energy consumed in the same time.
