The Best Cleaning Method of Panels, ACs, Motor Filters??

03/28/2012 3:13 AM

Dear Friends;

We have a problem in our plant that our plant (140 X 130Mtr) is located in an area where the environment is very dusty. The Air Conditioners for panel rooms and panels, DC motor filters and panel filters daily covers with dust. Our staff daily cleans the filters etc by compressed air.

The problem is that when they clean the filter, panel or air conditioner, the dust spread in the environment. Although there are blowers and exhaust run but our management wants to have another solution, cleaning method. I thought but failed to find another solution. Vacuum cleaner can not suck the dust completely especially in panels.

Does any body have experience for such problem? Please share your experience.

Look at ways of excluding and eliminating the dust from the areas where it is causing problems.

And another thing. If it is causing problems for the panels, think about what it is doing to people's lungs. First.

Spare washable filters then take them outside and hose them down.

Evaluate cleaning with Dry Ice Blasting.

You may try cleaning in parts by cordonning off the ares/s to be cleaned to reduce the mingling of blown/cleaned dust with the surroundings.

Install a dust collector/extractor system or electrostatic precipitator.

A washable pre-filter is probably a good idea in your area, regardless of what method you use to clean the fine filter. A dry vacuum is still a good idea to collect the dust once it is out of your fine filter but dislodging the fine particles out of the filter may still take the blast from an air compressor.

Can you route some ducting to the cabinets, etc. and provide a single filter at the origin. If not, maybe this approach could be applied several times on a "plant local" basis.

1) Build a box with a screen / grate on top, connect it to a dust collection system. Place the fliters to be cleaned on the grate when you blast them with compressed air.

2) For filters that cannot be removed, use a venturi type dust collector attached to your air cleaning nozzle. Or use a shop vacuum on the other side. Get creative.

I'm surprised that you have a facility in a dusty area and apparently no method of dust control.

OK, maybe I'm not so surprised...

If the dust is truly so bad that it needs to be cleaned daily, then I would suggest to install a water curtain in the air inlet path (to the factory). (These are normally used in the air outlet for spray paint facilities to stop release of environmental dust and work really well.) They cope with very high volume air flow since it's not only the spray air but also the spray booth flow of around 0.8m/sec for open area of the booth.

Very low operating cost, easily serviced to remove the accumulated grit, very simple technology, does not release dust to operators etc.

There may be one downside and that would be the relative humidity inside the building might be higher. The suppliers would be able to give you some indication.

Just an idea.

If possible, create a positive pressure inside the panels. This will reduce the amount of dust entering the cubicles.

Rent a carpet cleaning machine. It puts down a spray of cleaner and sucks it right back up. Watching this machine clean your filters may give you ideas of how to apply this technique of using water to loosen the dirt and then sucking it up.

To make a vac filter last longer have the stream of dusty air pass down into water first. When the vac is working, the water will 'boil' at the reduced pressure in the canister and trap the dust, making mud.

Hi:

I have used the system of reversing the fans on individual units to blow the dust back out where it came from. I used 1 minute in reverse every hour

Eltech hit it on the head. Pipe in clean air to housings that will have a positve pressure. Around the motors add flow if heat rises. I have done a variation of this in horroble conditions with perect results.

OK on the Air conditioners first be sure that you turn OFF the unit before you remove or clean the filter. If you remove the filter with the unit running it will be a heck of a mess.

If you have room in the unit install bag filters and MERV 80 pre-filters ahead of the bag filters. This will keep the air, area and equipment clean.

Remove and Replace the pre-filters weekly. TRUN THE UNIT OFF, pull out the pre-filters place them directly into a plastic garbage bag. seal the bag and throw them out. install new clean filters and then Turn the unit back on.

You can install Electrostatic Presipitator (ESP ) system to do away with the dust problem. Alternatively, if environment and enclosure of the equipments (i.e. degree of protection,e.g.,IP55,etc.) permits, you can use water sprinkling system; the latter is cheaper than former.

I used to live on a submarine where keeping contaminants out of the air is critical to staying alive. We used washable filters as others have suggested, and cleaned them in an ultrasonic sink. All of the dust remains in the water during cleaning and does not become airborne.
