Yes, actually there is natural compressive stress at 1 1/2 mile's depth, I got a really good answer from a scientist named Bob Wilson with the Newton ask a scientist website who confirmed that for me. Their affiliated with Argonne National labs.

Why don't you switch to making carbon 60. You can do it in the kitchen; takes about 5 minutes to make 3 pounds of the stuff.

Much better than digging mile deep holes.
