Plotter Cutter Machine

04/13/2012 1:59 AM

We are based in India and have a plotter cutter machine (From New Zealand)having a table 15meters.It is used to cut PVC coated fabric weighing 580gms/sq.meter to 1200gms/ sq.meter.We use a vacuum with an air compression system. We have calibrated the machine several times as well as leveled the table however we are still finding a difference of 10mm when cutting/plotting. Any suggestions?

You have to provide more detail

Does the material slip ? (conciser using double sided tape or pin it to keep it from slipping)

Is it an constant factor ? (adapt your conversation factor (inches - mm)

What drive mechanism is used ? if belts is it properly tensioned? (screw m chain)

What is the width of table? does it drive on both sides?

You could add a linear encoding system.

The material does not slip as its self weight keeps it steady. We simply lay the fabric on the table which is 3meters in width. Can you explain what is linear encoding?

A linear encoder is more or less an electronic ruler to enable you to compensate for play/ backlash in the drive system.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_encoder

Before you do that you may be using the incorrect conversion factor between imperial and metric which can be easily rectified by applying a factor .

Your tool-path may also have ignored the offset required between centre and face of the cutter.

Does the material stretch?

What do you use for a cutter?

The Fabric does not stretch and we use a rotary cutter

Doesn't the manufacture offer technical service?

What you describe maybe a count issue with in the program. Both the motors that move the cut head on X and Y axis will have encoders. Some where in the program there are fields to set the count from the encoders to a dimension. Was this was part of your calibration? If it was what dimension did you use to to calibrate to?

Is the diameter of your cutter 10mm? Your program may be using the center of the cutter as the edge, where it should be using the side. You have to add the cutter diameter to the sizes.

That's a smart one. Also tool radius-diameter mixing etc. S.M.

Is the 10mm error over the 15m?

OR if you were to cut a 200mm circle would it be 10mm wrong? If so, which way, bigger or smaller? or would it be right in one axis and wrong in another ( eliptical ).?

Please also check whether the start /begining edge is in right engle to the length of the sheet.

I have experience in sheet metal cutting/slitting where we cut the edges in right angle in the begining. This additional cutting reduces Utiisatin factor & labour ; but improves final accuracy.
