Electrical Designing Teaching Institutions in India

04/19/2012 4:23 PM

Hey guys, I am looking to do some short term electrical designing course and I want to know about government approved institutions for electrical designing in India. Please tell me some good teaching institutions where I can learn about electrical designing because I am looking to start my own designing company. Thanks in advance.

If you want Indian government approved institutions for your schooling, I recommend that you contact the Indian government. Higher education is probably different than here in the USA but here electrical engineering programs are accredited by private institutions like ABET.

Which kind of design do you want to specialise in? For example, i have specialised in low voltage switchgear design. i know people who have expertise in the design of switchgear, rotating machines, transformers, control systems, distribution, a myriad fields within electrical engineering. i cannot imagine any one institution running courses to cover all these.

So, to repeat, what do you want to design? And what makes you think you are good at it?

".. some short term electrical designing course " & ".. I am looking to start my own designing company" These two items may be mutually exclusive.

The usual way it to do a degree in Electrical engineering, typically 4 years, then get a lot of relevant experience. Luckily in India the requirement for study can often be bypassed with a well dierected "donation".

here in India the PE Concept is not exists.any body can design even with out formal electrical engineering Knowledge as long as your design fail with a disaster. There are stringent rules for contractors who follow Indian electricity rules and act.

i am disappointed with your comment. It seems quite fashionable to demean Indian systems in a world forum.

i am not saying we are among the best in the world, but we aren't so bad that a non-engineer is given the sole responsibility to design an EHV system. Far from it. i personally know the handful of Indian engineers who are capable of this, they work for Siemens, ABB, BHEL and such giant companies. Most have several patents to their name. Most have brilliant academic careers, and have worked in USA and Europe extensively in this field.

A non-engineer can perhaps design a small cam switch. In fact, i know one. i have used his product after improving the electrical portion of his beautifully engineered switch. If that man had tried, he could have got in IIT. His parents could not send him to school. So he worked in a small switch company, then started his own.

You study Electrical engineering course in any of reputed instates in India. Then get some work experience in the field which you want to start business on your own. Convert your academic knowledge into hands-on practical knowledge and then start your own after learning commercial part of business.
