Design a Blower

i need help to design a blower. i have with me the duct diagram and the length of the duct. this is used to suck out dirty air from the plant floor . i need to know how to determine suitable cfm and power inHP of blower required . kindly help me with this !

that very commendable of you.

you may be beyond your skill set.

I don't know if your need to actually design a blower or spec. one out,

If its to design a blower, I recommend you don't, if it's to spec a blower, contact a HVAC mechanical contractor.

thank you you very much to take the off!

actually im 18 and i don't know anything about this stuff . i have this friend who i like a loot and he sort helps me out in my problems so once e asked what i can do for him i said anything u want ask me . so in order to tease me he posted this on my FB wall .. and i wanted to surprise him .. kind of a sweet revenge by actually answering it .. so i just googled ! guess its not that easy . thank you so much for commenting and im sorry i wasted you time :)

Please don't let that get out. I've spent years cultivating my reputation as a cold hearted SOB and I'd hate to have lost it by performing a single act of pity.

Here's a quote from another thread regarding Japanese pipe design, "I think we do a dis-service to those who are obviously unqualified for the task at hand by providing technical information that is beyond the comprehension of the recipient."

In this case, I think the OP is mostly harmless.

From reading the OP, I believe he means well, and I for one will not knock him down.

but can understand the teasing and try to have him save face with maybe a let retribution.

As far as my position as RCO. Remember, I have the ability to limit the rumor or approve it for mass distribution.

hey!hai.. thnq for the info and stuff :)

when i posted the link he was like "you googled it "

and nothing else he completly forgot about it and i dint say him that i had actually gone and registerd in a site were ppl like u take the Q's that are posted seriously and answer them he would have defenetly shot me bang bang for that ;).

What you are asking is like asking me to design a new car. There is a lot involved and can't be answered with a few sentences. You have given very little information to go on. I suggest you contact someone who works with ventilation systems.

I hereby volunteer to stand in as the EEFC (Electrical Engineering Forum Curmudgeon) today.

A) This is an ELECTRICAL engineering forum, but the problem is not an ELECTRICAL engineering problem.

B) This is not "Help an 18 year old design his friend's hobby project" forum. Helping him only serves to encourage other 18 year olds and students to think of us as free engineering solutions instead of learning to do things on their own and leaving it to professionals until they do.

C) I can't stand people who post in "textese"...

Calculate cu ft of space to be exhausted(HxWxD), determine rate of air change, size fan accordingly....This would would be free air flow....To add duct work see link for calc..

ex. 20,000cu ft

one air change per min(usually determined by code)

fan size 20,000cu ft per min

You need to give more details to select the blower. Some of the details area

· Volume of the room

· Number of air changes per hour as per the process or HVAC standards if it is for ventilation purpose.

From the volume of the room ,no of air changes per hour you can calculate the volume of air required to be removed or supplied through blower. That will give the capacity . Then you can select it from the manufactures catalogues fi you know the pressure drop and other special requirement of it.

I do not understand how the duct size has been worked out without knowing the blower capacity.

i think your question should have been, "how many times should i recirculate the air in the building on a per hour basis. there's too many factors involved to give you an appropriate answer. air leaks in the building for example.

an off the cuff answer would be to re-size the blower until the pollutents dissapate in a resonable amount of time. the more ventilation, the better. go big. you're not paying for it.
