Where corrosion is a potential issue. (NACE = National Association of Corrosion Engineers; they publish data on the compatibility of various materials versus chemical environment.)

All sorts of acids, for instance; salt water; oil to some types of material; some alkalis.

There isn't really such one thing as "NACE material." There are many standard materials such as copper, stainless steel, PVC, etc., etc. Different materials work best with different chemicals, as can be seen from many corrosion compatibility tables published by pipe, tube, and tank suppliers, and NACE itself.
