Selection of Gearbox

05/12/2012 1:41 AM

We have new application where we have to move weight 700ks in Y Axis ,the frame on which weight is mounted is connected pinion and rack of module 2 and length of rack is 2 meter ,liner accuracy required is 30 micron ;motor rpm 3000,motor speed 30m/min, liner accuracy required 30micron/m now we have to find what gear ratio;torque required for moving system ;Backlash required

Good for you. Write if you get work. When you find the ratio, let us know. 30 microns??

I hope temperature control is tight in the room where this will be attempted.

They have perfect temperature control in La La Land. 30 microns per meter? No prob!

You have to provide more information than this to get this approved for the International Space Station. Application Denied!

Next.

"Backlash required", you got it!

The OP did not specify the amount of backlash, just that it should exist.

IMHO the only thing the OP accurately specified is their incompetence.

To be fair, it does appear that English is not the native tongue of the OP. However, the lack of effort to clarify any misunderstanding in this thread and the other backlash thread the OP posted, leads me to the same conclusion.

Along with the gear box please take care of the Total CG of the equipment to be at the centre and total geometry is in dynamic balance to Retain the accuracy over a long period.

Tell whoever it is that needs to know this to throw all the existing old machinery out and purchase a new high accuracy linear actuator

Job done!

Dear Mr.indrajeetv,

The data furnished is insufficient. At least you have to provide the teeth on pinion or the center distance of pinion to the rack, or provide the PCD of the pinion, or provide data to calculate PCD, of the Pinion.

The Back Lash is linked to the Module of the Gear and Pinion of the respective stage(s), in your case it is rack, and 30 Microns of Back Lash for this application is high.

At the very least he needs to indicate the direction of gravity. A 700 kg mass will require 6,864 N of an additional force in some yet to be determined direction for this to remain stationary. If this motion is anything but orthogonal to the direction of gravity then backlash will be a moot point because the mechanics will be preloaded. No backlash concerns at all. If motion is orthogonal to gravity then static and dynamic friction will be critical to know and understand for this preposterous feat to be attempted. Once the static friction is understood then at this mass the required force to move it will be known. Now the mechanics of the rack and pinion and a possible transmission can be explored.

At least this is what I would do.

you obviously don't appreciate the knowlege needed to design this project. contact a good mechanical engineer.
