Would Appreciate References to Custom Design Miller Type DC Power Unit

05/22/2012 3:21 PM

Hello all,

MagneGas use an off the shelf Miller DC Power Systems similar to that in the link below to power their submerge arc gasification process:

http://www.millerwelds.com/products/multiprocess/dimension_1000/

Apparently they feel that with a custom specification efficiency could be improved, in the past they have contacted the Miller company but couldn't conclude on developing a unit together.

Would one of you be able to refer me to an individual or company who might be interested in designing and building a system to fit MagneGas requirements?

Thanks,

Nah, it's OK but generally just an alternative to landfill + methane gas turbine.

Both solutions have their advantages and disadvantages.

What do the need that they can't get commercially?

More power? Different wave form?

The Miller can't be modified?

All it takes is money. And the specification package. I'm making the assumption that there IS a specification. That's a contract build, if the specification exists.

Otherwise, it'd be a design and build (and test and fix and test) and that'll take a lot more money. And time.

What do you need modified on the Miller Dimension 1000 units in specific?

I have worked on those power supplies a few times and I don't find anything in them too difficult to understand. I think I even have the full service schematics and related files here for them as well.

If you have the money to burn I can change the output to anything you need within reason.

Send me a PM with the specifics including the price you are expecting to pay and I can tell you if its even possible to do.

Tcmtech,

That sounds like you have the skills so I suspect that MagneGas would want you to sign an NDA and agree up-front what the comp would be. Can I have an e-mail address and have someone from MNGA contact you?

Tcmtech,

I have been asked to chase this up again.

Are you still interested? A conference call if it goes well would be followed by an offer to come down to Sunny Florida.

To meet with the "Man" himself.

He's right here.

tcmtech worked on those power supplies and can fix them for sure. Just PM him me with the specifics including the price you are expecting to pay and I he can tell you if its even possible to do. I'll take a 5% finders fee. Just PM me.

Lyn thanks for the reference and offer would be quite ironic if you were compensated with 5% in stock, no?

Seriously your help was greatly appreciated.

Why not say what the requirements are, so that potential responders can determine if they are capable of meeting the specs?

They claim 80% efficiency. This is OK but could be brought to >90% with "better" power electronic conversion techniques. We get these results on our large power supplies sold to OEM. The problem is that it is a costly modification to an already working unit. The 10% saving in power might not pay for the changes unless you have hundreds of them.

This is something that the manufacturer could look into but not the end users (unless you do it for fun).

Marcot,

The issue is not the unit efficiency but MagneGas I believe is trying to alter the way the power is delivered to increase the efficiency of the submerged arc resulting in a higher productive rate of gas / kwh.

Suspect they will try for fun first then go with a solution to a manufacturer.
