DSL Problem

06/03/2012 9:20 AM

I have activated a 1MBps DSL connection on my landline. The modem prestige p600 shows dsl, internet, and ethernet connectivity, however my laptop shows only LAN connectivity up to the modem which is strange. I changed the modem, ethernet cable and tried laptop of my friend but still no access to net. Help needed please because I am paying bill but not using any net.

Call your provider for instructions...

Does the problem exist if you use ethernet cable from laptop to modem? I have repeatedly had problems with WIRELESS laptop internet connectivity, but not ethernet, when using laptops. Weird, I know. What's weirder is the problem usually goes away if I Use ethernet cable first and then remove the cable. Not gonna try to explain it 'cause I don't get it.

Is there a separate router (either wired or wireless)? If so, you must not power up the router until after the DSL modem has finished connection and all its lights (except for the LAN light) are steady. Then turn on the router and wait until all its lights are steady. Only then should you attempt to connect the computer. as the previous post said, use a wired connection to start. Also, don't try email until a browser has connected successfully.

Was the modem provided by the landline company?

Try to see if you do have connection with ping

In a commandbox type PING 8.8.8.8

If you get response, then you have connection, but maybe no namelookup with dns server.

Name-lookup you can test with PING google.com

Not familiar with that modem...but does it have a light thats flashing yellow per chance....or is it solid or even green?

Back in the days before I got fiber to my house (FIOS) I had DSL..and had to run CAT5 cable from the outside phone box to the modem to get DSL to work...the house wiring didn't support it even though it was fine for a dialup or voice.

usually the document is called Quick Installation Guide or Installation Manual ... your device provider's homy doesnot seem to list such in their support area

google found this http://pctechnotes.com/how-to-configure-zyxel-p-600-series-with-pldt-mydsl/

(happy that day)
