Problem in Arc Welding Machine

06/04/2012 1:00 AM

We have T.V.C. (The validation center), arc logger (A.L.X.II), used to monitor current, voltage , wire feed during welding.

Now when we connect clamp meter ( of the machine) the current on LCD (of the machine) goes to 400 degree C, and not come to zero even after resetting.

Kindly advice what to do.

The current goes to 400 degrees C. ??

Please try to explain your situation again, as this, for one, makes no sense at all.

Also advise whether this is a new problem or an ongoing problem and whether or not any maintenance or repairs have been recently performed on the machine.

V and I are standard measurements Temp is optional...have your unit's aux ports been configured for temp measurement?

How many times have you successfully used this instrument prior to this latest observation?

yes we have used it before. there is a adjustment knob on clamp meter with which the initial current is adjusted but now it is not coming down from 400

Just confirm that this is 400Amps being displayed and not degrees C per your OP.....

AC or DC welding?

Is there a battery in the current clamp ?

yes it is 400 Amp. probe has no batteries. The probe 's model no. is SC.V.1FR, 600V CAT III, 1500 Amp ( 1mV/Amp) made by ND, Bradford uk. i think i should give some voltage to check the value on machine, but could not get the pin configuration. how can i know the pin configuration to give voltage, just to confirm that probe is faulty or not.

there is no self test. we measure dc current.

DC current clamp requires power to work. If there are no batteries then the power comes from the main unit.

Were you thinking of injecting volts into the main unit to see if the indication changes?

This is a record and verification instrument and for its measurements to have any voracity needs to be properly calibrated. Once you start messing around with it you really can't be guaranteed that its calibration is still valid.

Send the unit to the manufacturer or other properly certified facility to have it checked out in an accountable manner. Your clients (either internal or external) require validation because it really matters to them for what ever reason and you can't side step this.

If it is important enough to use the instrument it is probably equally important for it to be functioning correctly. Do yourself a favour and have it looked at by an accountable "specialist".

Are there any user accessible fuses? What did the manual say? Have you contacted the manufacturer yet?

Does not your TVC logger have a self test confirmation? If not contact company re reloading operation program.

  1. first of all update the software
  2. check the screen of software and see the battery voltage:
  3. it must be 17.7 if else then change the login user.
  4. use digital mili volt generator and apply different mv steps to pin no 3 & 4 of current probe input.
  5. current display when we applied mv to current probe input. if this is ok than your current probe is faulty.
  6. if you want to repair current probe, replace the variable resistor(zero adjustment of current variable on current probe) from 20k to 50k or 100k multi turn and adjust zero.
