Home theatre systems

05/14/2007 3:54 AM

I just purchased a Sony 1000 watt home theatre system saturday. I had to return it on Sunday to the store-it seems that the sony remote will not work with my Hitachi TV. I plan to buy another system-I dont want the same problem again! HELP!

So, I guess you want help with selecting another system?

I haven't kept up with the new appliances so I can't give you any help there. However, I suggest that you get a system (any brand) and then buy one of those programmable remote controls. It will allow you to operate both the home theater system as well as the TV (and possibly more).

There are two types: one allows you to select the brand of the appliance you want to control (I guess that makes it selectable and not programmable); the other allows you to take your standard remote, put the programmable remote in front of it, and as you press the buttons on your standard remote, the programmable remote copies and remembers the code. Most, if not all, call this the "learn" procedure.

Go back and get your stereo and buy a $15.00 remote from dick smith

use the instructions to operate and set tv and stereo to work from the same remote

Get a universal remote and program it to operate the different components of your system. Alternately, store all your remotes together in a rack or something similar so that they will all always be at hand.

Read your new manual (and the tv,etc., manual) thoroughly. One or both of your tv and hts probably was boxed with univeral remote--or you would not have tried using it as a universal. As stated above, universal remote must be programmed. See instruction manuals for the code and programming process. The chance that any one tv/hts has it code listed is probably about 95% for any worldwide brand up to 25 or more years old. If problem try out codes (of other versions/generics of the brand) and one or more will typically work. The mfr or distributor number (listed on box or in owner manual) will typically lead you the correct code...or appropriate generics to program.

It almost like returning your new Honda because your Toyota key doesn't work on it.
