Ball Bearing Swivels/Marine Use

07/14/2012 9:02 PM

I am trying to locate a solid, American or European made Ball Bearing swivel that can hold at least 500kg.

It has to be capable of use in saltwater.

It HAS to actually swivel with a load on it. Those Eye to Eye swivel just freeze up and reverse rotate when a twisted cable or or line gets under the slightest of pressure.

It has to be able to go at least through a Snatch Block.

It has to be under 3" and no more than 1" diameter.

Does anyone have any working knowledge of such a critter???

It seems like a plain bearing would be much better suited to the load, speed, and salt water environment than the ball bearing you specified...

.

This is just a suggestion for broadening your search for potential solutions. Unfortunately I don't have working experience with your particular application.

I need a "Bullet" shaped ball bearing type. The others do not hold up going into a snatch block. I can only find these in really small or really large. I need one about 2.5" > 3.00" long and approx. 1" diameter or so.....it has to accept a 3/8" braided line on both ends.

500 kg/ 1100 lb. test load

That's it. Does it come in a size that fits my requirements?

Do you have a website or contact info?

Thank you for the info.

Hi

The Wallace and Cooper Swivel is pretty robust (used extensively in the New Zealand deep sea fishing industry) but might be a bit big for you. Here is a link to it. Click on "Hardware" then "Swivels - Wallace & Cooper Bearing" It is a sealed unit but repairable.

Thank you Maurice.

Hope all is well? I've stepped away from the commercial guys and am solely dealing with scientists. Less money but I am NOT at some out-of-the-way fish dock at midnight trying t collect on a bad check!

Thank you for the lead. A long line swivel might work very well.

They have a caveat....

"Note:

Do not allow these swivels to be pulled around a bullwheel or capstan. Damage to the swivel and/or wheel may occur."

I saw that. If its the size I want, it'll go over a sheave in a snatch block and not bind, A capstan requires the line to be wrapped at least twice and that makes the swivel really bend with a bind on it.

Thank yo for the observation.

No yachts around to rig. ha ha.........

I believe this website has it all and it looks like they use these 'bullets' for other types of outdoor work.

Thank you too.
